Knitting and crochet classes

I offer knitting and crochet classes in NIce area, France. If you are interested, please contact me at silkandwool.eu (at) gmail.com or by phone on 06 17 80 20 08 .

BEGINNERS’ KNITTING CLASSES

Course will take place across 5 classes 2 hours each. It covers the basic skills needed to follow easy to intermediate knitting patterns.

Course Outline.

Please note that this is an approximate description. I may adapt the learning plan according to students’ progress rate.

  1. Cast on, knit, purl, bind off.
  2. Increases, decreases. Lace.
  3. Cables.
  4. Colourwork – stranded and intarsia
  5. Working in round. Baby sock

Techniques that may be covered gradually across the whole course:

  • Yarns and their qualities
  • Needles and knitting tools.
  • Gauge. Sample.
  • Simple adjustment calculations
  • Reading charts and abbreviated instructions
  • Brioche stitch.

The extent to which these areas will be covered will depend on how easily students will progress through the main part of the course and therefore, how much free time there will be.

Materials and tools needed

–          Yarn. It’s best to learn on 100% wool, but you also may use acrylic yarns, or wool and acryl blends. I strongly recommend against using any other fibers.

–          Needles. You may use either circular or classic straight needles. For the class that covers knitting in the round, I’ll lend you the needles, but you will not be able to take them home. The size of the needles will depend on yarn weight.

–          Darning needle.

Additional notes.

Knitting is a very vast craft, with way too many techniques and ways to achieve the same result, and it’s the beauty of it. However, it’s impossible to cover in a short course. Only basics will be covered during the class. You will get homework – a selection of patterns that will allow you to practice and deepen your knowledge.  As with any skill, the more you practice, the better your results will be.
