Granita bag – using single crochet instead of double

Abbreviations (US terminology)

  • Fdc – foundation double crochet
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Esc – and edging stitch that is a combination of single crochet and slip stitch: here’s a short video on how to make this stitch:

Method:

Start with 36 fdc.

Work 7 more rows of dc for a total of 8 rows. I strongly recommend using one of the chainless methods for the first stitch of every row to create even edges. Break off yarn.

Join yarn in the middle of the short side. Work around the base in esc: 7 stitches in the 4 rows on the shorter side, 36 sts across the long side, 14 sts across the second short side, 36 on the long side and 7 more stitches across the other half of the first short side (100 sts in total). Join in the round.

Work the first round of dc, join with a slip stitch, turn. Work 11 more rounds of dc, joining and turning your work at the end of each round.

Finish off with 1 round of esc.

Sew your lining. Here you can see my photo tutorial on lining my bags. If you prefer videos to guide you through a process, I can recommend the following ones.

For classical strap buckle positioning (vertically on both sides of the bag), first sew on the buckles then the lining. If you would like to position them like I did (one vertically, towards  the end of the zipper, and the other one horizontally on top the zipper), it’s going to be a bit more fiddly. Still better to attach the vertical one before sewing in the lining.
