Sunny slouchy beanie – knitted beanie pattern

Slouchy Sunny Beanie

Today I would like to share a few notes on how I made this hat. I really like how it has turned out – it’s very soft to the touch, and a combination of the colours and the silk shining make it really brighten the day! Quick tip for lazy bums like me: I didn’t feel like knitting a swatch to determine how many stitches to cast on for the brim. This is the only reason I knitted the hat top down, and it worked really well! So this will now be my go-to strategy for knitting hats from new yarns, I think.

Knitted beanie pattern – Sunny Slouchy beanie.

You will need 1 skein of Alchemy Yarns Silk Purse (100% silk, 149m/50g), 4mm/US6 and 3.5mm/US 4 needles for knitting in the round (I used Magic loop and circular needles).

Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows for 10×10 cm

Fits 56cm head.

With larger needles cast on 24 sts, leaving a longish tail.

Round 1 (and all odd rounds unless otherwise instructed: Knit
Round 2: (K3, m1) = 32 sts
Round 4: (K4, m1) = 40 sts
Round 6: (K5, m1) = 48 sts
Continue increasing every other round  until you get to k15, m1 (=128 sts)
Knit for 25 rows (16 cm from crown or 10.5 cm from last increase).
Switch for smaller needles.

Next round: (k2, p2, k2, p2tog, p1, k2, p2, k1, k2tog, p2, k2, p2, k2tog, k1, p2, k2, p1, p2tog) = 112 sts
Rib for another 15 rounds.

Next round: (k1, slip next st off the needle, keep in front of work, slip next st with yarn in front, put the stitch that’s on hold on the right needle, slip next st with yarn in front) = first round of tubular stitch in preparation for Italian bind off.

Next round: (slip knit stitch with yarn in back, purl the purl stitch)

Bind off Italian style. Close the opening at the top of the hat. Weave in the ends.

I am now working on the cowl to match the hat, so that I have a full set to wear, I will share soon the finished result.
