Inspired by the scull caps I made for my friend and her daughter, I decided to make one for my girl. However, I did not feel like making all the motives (with all the ends to weave in). On the other hand, I like the look of a wider border made in a different direction than the main hat. After a bit of a search, I found the solution here. I have also decided to go for a classic V-Stitch, rather than reversed one.
Finished size: circumference – 52 cm/20.5 in, depth – 17 cm/6.7in, to fit a large child/teen/small adult head with head circumference of 54-56 cm / 21.25-22 in.
Materials and tools required:
- approximately 25 gr of crochet cotton. I have used Distrifil Deco 8 (560m / 100g or 612 yards/3.53ounces), you can use any similar weight material.
- crochet hook suze 1.75mm / US 5 steel
- darning needle to weave in ends

Flower band
I used the pattern from the link above, only 1 repeat wide (two alternating flowers on the right and left, I did 18 chains to start) – 8 1/2 repeats (17 flowers in total), joined in round with ch-3 ans slip stitches
Main body
V-st: dc, ch3, dc – all in the same ch1/ch3 space
inc V-st: dc, ch3, 2 dc, ch3, dc – all in the same ch1/ch3 space
Round 1: in the magic loop, ch4, (dc, ch1)x9, sl st in the 3rd chain to join the round
Round 2: sl st in ch1-sp, ch6, dc in the same space, V-st in the next ch1-sp all around, join with sl st in the 3rd chain= 10 V’s
Round 3: sl st in ch1-sp, ch6, dc in the same space, inc V-st in the next ch3-sp , (V-st, inc Vst) all around, join with sl st in the 3rd chain= 15 V’s
Round 4: sl st in ch1-sp, ch6, dc in the same space,V-st in the next space, inc V-st in the next ch3-sp , (2 V-st, inc Vst) all around, join with sl st in the 3rd chain= 20 V’s
Round 5: sl st in ch1-sp, ch6, dc in the same space,V-st in the next 2 spaces inc V-st in the next ch3-sp , (3 V-st, inc Vst) all around, join with sl st in the 3rd chain= 25 V’s
Round 6: sl st in ch1-sp, ch6, dc in the same space,V-st in the next 3 spaces inc V-st in the next ch3-sp , (4 V-st, inc Vst) all around, join with sl st in the 3rd chain= 30 V’s
Round 5: sl st in ch1-sp, ch6, dc in the same space,V-st in the next 4 spaces inc V-st in the next ch3-sp , (5 V-st, inc Vst) all around, join with sl st in the 3rd chain= 30 V’s

Round 9 – sl st in ch1-sp, ch6, dc in the same space, V-st in the next ch3-sp all around, join with sl st in the 3rd chain= 40 V’s
Round 10 – increase twice across the round – 42 V’s
Rounds 11-18 – work even in V-st
Round 19. Continue working even in V-st, but join to the flower band at the same time: instead of ch3, do ch1, sl st in ch ch5/tr space along the side of the flower band. Proceed joining each V-stich to one space 4 times, and them two V-st’s in the same space. You should have 42 V-st to join into 34 spaces , so you need to join 2 V-st’s into one space of the flower band 8 times.
Weave in all the ends and you are done. I prefer the look without any edging along the edge of the flower band, but you may wand to add something.
